Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)

Much has been said over the past years about optimising websites for the world's most important search engines, mainly Google. Fortunately, you can now worry less about the ropey techniques and SEO companies charging thousands for "guaranteed" rankings. In fact, "black hat" tactics are more likely to get your site completely barred from the search engines, resulting in untold damage lasting months at least.

The best methods comes down to basics, here's our top 10:

  1. Keep content and keywords significant
  2. Use Meta Tags appropriately
  3. Keep code lean and clean - use CSS (see below)
  4. Use a sitemap that web-bots can check
  5. Use a robots.txt file to guide the bots
  6. Keep all pages within a few clicks of home page
  7. Use normal text hyperlinks where possible
  8. Accessible sites use "alt" tags with key descriptions
  9. Get quality links to your quality website
  10. Track both keyword searching and web visits

Needless to say, we design websites with all this in mind, and we can offer the hosting that provides full web visit reporting so you can see how people are reaching your site. Don't settle for less.

Cascading Style Sheets (CSS)

When we design a website, we keep the code as clean as possible - making it easier to maintain in future, more standardised across all browsers and quicker for users and search engines. CSS is vital in this because they minimise the amount of code.

Unfortunately, browsers have not always kept up with standards and many variations (bugs) can make your site look messy and unprofessional. We have real Macs for Safari (not semi-useless simulators) as well as the PC versions of Internet Explorer, Firefox, Netscape and Opera. By keeping code clean, it's ready for mobile and other future devices too - we can create content for these too.
